Yohji Yamamoto Spring Summer 2016 Runway
Yohji Yamamoto underscored tailoring in his SS16 runway presentation but his goal was not to make you look like a businessman. Playing up his suits with graphic piping, painterly patterns and a crinkle-textured textile showed that suiting doesn’t have to be so serious. Yamamoto highlighted his self-deprecating sense of humor in this collection by emblazoning t-shirts with the phrase “I’m For Rent.” Previously Yamamoto has taken his bow on the runway with a “For Rent” sign on his back. He may think himself a sell out, but Yamamoto stills continues to be one of the most influential designers of the Japanese avant-gardes.
